The Mirror of Erised || Saoirse & Otto
The Room of Requirement, she thought to herself quietly - almost as though she was making a mental note of it. She chewed on her bottom lip before speaking again. “Is that what it’s called? The Room of Requirement?” she asked, her eyes still gazing at Otto. “I thought it was just where people’s lost things were hidden… where people could find the things they’ve lost. A fr-” She stopped herself shortly. Remus Lupin wasn’t a friend. Never was. Never will be. “A fellow classmate showed it to me a while back but I’ve only been there once… we can check. Maybe Dumbledore hid it there.”
She shrugged, looking back down at the photo of the mirror on the page that laid in front of them. It was quiet except for the voice of Otto. But even then, she was dozing off. She could only hear bits and pieces of what he was saying. No, he said, clearly refusing to gaze into the mirror. She understood except, not really. Wasn’t he the least bit curious? At his question, Saoirse looked back at him. “Yes,” she said almost without hesitation. Nodding, she repeated it again. “Yes. I would.”
“Aren’t you the least bit curious what you may find?” she asked, shifting at her seat a little. “I know… it’s dangerous but… but… curiosity…” her voice fell silent after. “It could be bad, you know? But… what if it isn’t all that bad?”
Otto shook his head slowly, staring at the image of the mirror with narrowed eyes. He had always been an extremely logical person, his mind often outweighing his heart. “If one already knows their deepest desire, what use would it be to go look at it other than to drive themselves mad?” He shook his head again and quietly closed the book. Wishful thinking didn’t make dreams come true. Actions did— or when dreams were nothing more than that, dreams, ignoring them was the best solution.
“After all,” He sighed lightly, lifting his head to look out the closest dark window. “What use is it to just stare at what we want and lose ourselves? People are so fragile, I find.”

The Mirror of Erised || Saoirse & Otto
“It shows you your deepest desires,” Otto continued, moving the book across the table between them. It seemed the only way Otto wasn’t completely awkward was when it came to studies. He stared down at the shiny painting of the mirror, reflecting the faces of the two Ravenclaws. “It’s a powerful bit of magic, really, but it’s gone missing after people have spent their entire lives staring at it.” He bit at his lip lightly and slumped against the table. The childish part of his mind would have liked to see the mirror, but the logical part knew better. He knew the price to pay after seeing his own deepest, cruelest desires.
He jumped slightly and glanced up, remembering he had company again. He smiled a bit and shrugged. “I don’t know if it would interest you or not, but this book is fascinating. It has some extra information about Arithmancy and quite a bit about alchemy.”
She leaned forward, moving closer as Otto pushed the book in the middle of them. Otto was right, she thought. The Mirror of Erised did seem to be a powerful magical artifact and certainly quite dangerous if used wrongly and excessively. She fell silent for a moment, looking at her faint reflection on the mirror and Otto’s reflection too. She wondered what she would see in the mirror. She never desired for much. Just home. That was all. She could careless about all the gold in the world. She never had much ambition to strive for anything too great. She was fine just… being… But she did dream of home or at least, Ireland.
Saoirse looked back up at Otto. Her gaze moving from the book to him. “Do you think Hogwarts would have one?” she asked, tilting her head to the side. “I’ve been to a room. A big room, where all things lost are hidden away. Have you ever been there? What if…” she paused for a moment. The thought made logical sense and possibilities of it were palpable. “What if there’s a Mirror there? Would you look into it?”
“The Room of Requirement,” Otto filled in, well aware of the school’s little trick room. He had spent many a time there with his brother when they got into their bouts of ‘mischief.’ He furrowed his brow and considered the possibility, running his fingertip along the smooth surface of the painting. “I doubt there would be. The Mirror is very powerful magic, just like the Room itself. I’m not sure if one would be able to counter the other.”
The Ravenclaw sighed and stared thoughtfully down at the table. Would he go after the mirror? Otto never thought himself ridden with desires and ruled by goals. At least, he was content with his life and had no real urges. Well, except one thing… “No,” He replied after a moment of contemplation. He shook his head, closing the book. “No, I don’t want that kind of responsibility or pressure. We’re not meant to artificially stare our deepest, darkest desires in the face. It’s been proven— I would be driven mad, wouldn’t I?” He smiled weakly and ran his fingers through his long hair.
“No, I don’t want to test that part of myself. Would you look in?”
